Fifty years ago, Greek immigrants, George and Stamatia Lingos opened the Homestead Donut House, which ultimately became a 700-seat restaurant, banquet facility and coffee shop. It was such a popular place for dining in Boston, MA that it attracted celebrities like the young Senator/future president, John F. Kennedy and Congressman/future Speaker of the House, Tip O'Neil. In 1963 when the restaurant tragically burnt down, the family continued construction of a motel behind the property and opened the Homestead Motor Inn later that year. During the eighties, the second generation of The Homestead joined forces with Best Western. In 2004, the third generation of this family business changed the name from Homestead to Hotel Tria to modernize the name of the business while still reflecting their Greek heritage as a third generation business of three siblings, (Tria is Greek for Three).
